The European Green Deal
A set of proposals to make the EU's climate, energy, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.
Climate change and environmental degradation pose an existential threat to Europe and the entire globe. To tackle these challenges, the European Green Deal aims to transform the EU into a modern, resource-efficient, and competitive economy, ensuring:
-
Zero net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050
-
Economic growth that is independent of resource use
-
No person and no region left behind
The European Green Deal is also a crucial element in our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. A third of the €1.8 trillion investments from the NextGenerationEU Recovery Plan, along with the EU’s seven-year budget, will support the European Green Deal.
The European Commission has put forward a series of proposals to align the EU's climate, energy, transport, and taxation policies with the goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
