About the Event
Join us at the Citizen Science Festival in Oulu: help build a carbon-neutral city!
The U_CAN project is thrilled to be part of the Citizen Science Festival in Oulu, Finland. The Festival, organised by our consortium partner European Citizen Science Association (ECSA), is a part of the ECSA2026 conference that brings together researchers, citizens, and organisations to explore how citizen science can drive sustainable solutions and strengthen communities. At our interactive stand, visitors will step into the role of city planners and help build a carbon-neutral Ukrainian city. Using a top-down city map and coloured pins, participants can decide which areas should be prioritised for climate investments – from renewable energy and efficient buildings to sustainable transport, river restoration, and green urban spaces. An improvised indicator will visually show how collective decisions contribute to the city’s progress toward carbon neutrality.
Oulu is an inspiring host city for this activity, recognised as one of Finland’s leaders in climate action. The city is striving to become carbon neutral by 2035, with strong commitments to renewable energy, sustainable mobility, green construction, and nature-based solutions. This makes it the perfect setting to engage citizens in hands-on climate planning and co-creation.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to share their own ideas on the Ideas Wall, helping the U_CAN team understand what citizens see as the most important climate actions.
This activity is not only educational but also fun, collaborative, and fully hands-on – perfect for citizens of all ages who want to explore how cities can become more sustainable and resilient.
Join us in Oulu and help shape the climate-neutral city of the future!
