Strengthening Climate Neutrality Collaboration in Kyiv under the U_CAN Project

As part of Work Package 4 (pilot implementation in Ukraine, supported by European front-runners) and Work Package 6 (capacity building and localised knowledge mobilisation in Ukraine) of the U_CAN project, a productive meeting took place with representatives of the Kyiv City Administration to support an interview with Katinka Bundgård Fals from Aarhus University.
The interview addressed current challenges and opportunities related to climate neutrality in Kyiv, focusing on:
– pressing environmental needs of the city,
– existing initiatives and pilot projects,
– adopted policies and legal frameworks for climate action.
Kyiv City Administration representatives:
– Serhii Pavlovskyi, Director of the Scientific Research Institute for Socio-Economic City Development
– Serhii Saburov, Director of the department for environmental protection and climate change adaptation, Kyiv City Council
– Valeriia Karabut and Daria Savchenko, leading specialists in the department of environmental assessment
Participants from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (U_CAN):
– Dr Oksana Vovk, Director of the Institute for Energy Saving and Energy Management (IEE)
– Vitalii Pobihailo, Deputy Director of IEE
– Liudmyla Vlasiuk, leading expert at the international collaboration department
– Stefan Zaichenko, Head of the IEE International Office
Following the interview, discussions explored Kyiv’s potential involvement in the upcoming NetZero Cities Twinning Call. The City Administration expressed strong interest and readiness to collaborate in this initiative.
This meeting represents an important step in strengthening cooperation between academia, local authorities, and European partners to advance climate neutrality efforts in Ukraine.
