Towards Carbon Neutrality: Ukrainian Cities Showcase Climate Action at Kyiv Event

On 12 November, Kyiv hosted the information dissemination event “Research and Innovation as a Driver of Ukraine's Integration into the Global Research Space”, celebrating World Science Day for Peace and Development.
Professor Stefan Zaichenko from U_CAN consortium member “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (ISKPI) presented the project’s approach, pilot results, and practical steps that Ukrainian pilot cities are taking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and implement sustainable urban planning solutions.
The event brought together high-level representatives from Ukraine and the European Union, including Deputy Minister of Education and Science Denys Kurbatov, Serhiy Babak, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, Karol Manselle-Blanchard from the European Commission, Lidia Borrell-Damián, Secretary General of Science Europe, and Yehor Pyvovarov from the EU Delegation. Speakers highlighted the remarkable resilience of Ukrainian scientists in the face of ongoing challenges and underlined the EU’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s scientific development.
With over 250 participants attending in person and online, the event highlighted the EU-backed U_CAN project as a model for practical, climate-resilient urban transformation, and reinforced the importance of international collaboration in achieving sustainable urban futures in Ukraine.
