From September 23-26, 2024, the U_CAN project was represented by its partner, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, at the advanced research workshop “Energy Infrastructure Resilience in Response to War and Other Hazards.” The event, held at Rzeszow University of Technology in Poland, was organized within the framework of the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme. The workshop's primary goal was to bring together international expertise to develop strategies for protecting and restoring critical energy infrastructure in the face of emergencies such as war, terrorism, natural disasters, and cyber threats.
During the workshop, the Ukrainian delegation presented Igor Sikorsky KPI's research within the U_CAN project, including:
Risk assessment and analysis of vulnerabilities in energy infrastructure during military operations and cyber threats;
Development of innovative technologies to enhance the resilience and recovery of energy systems;
Comparative studies of international responses to energy emergencies;
Initiatives to rebuild schools and kindergartens damaged by the war, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
This workshop provided an invaluable platform for global collaboration, with experts from Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Latvia, Germany, and Turkey contributing to the discussions. ISKPI invited international partners to collaborate as experts, with the aim of fostering sustainable urban development in Ukraine. The U_CAN project recognizes the importance of such international dialogue in strengthening cooperation between academics and practitioners in the field of energy security, as well as in creating new opportunities for future joint research and projects.
