From November 6 to 8, a session of the Europe and Central Asia Regional Platform
for Disaster Risk Reduction took place in Montenegro. The Platform is positioned as
an intergovernmental program aimed at addressing disaster risk issues in Europe
and Central Asia. It currently unites representatives from governments, civil society,
and the private sector across 55 countries, facilitating the exchange of experiences
and the development and implementation of policies aimed at reducing risks. The
platform is supported by international organizations that are part of its secretariat,
including the European Commission, the Council of Europe, and UNDRR.
During the Regional Platform, Lviv was officially granted the status of a Resilience
Hub by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). From now
on, it will serve as a platform for exchanging resilience expertise between cities,
particularly in the context of wartime challenges, and for strengthening cooperation
among Ukrainian cities.
This achievement is the result of work by U_CAN partner "City Institute Lviv" in
collaboration with the Lviv City Council, to implement modern practices in green
energy, integrated development, mobility, and, most importantly, resilience to military
threats. The Resilience Hub status obliges the "City Institute" to actively share
knowledge in this field with the public.
For Ukraine, and especially for Lviv, participation in the platform provided an
opportunity to gain valuable experience from other countries, attract support, and
establish new partnerships to address economic, environmental, and energy crises
resulting from the war.
