U_CAN launches practical course on climate-neutral community development for Ukrainian mayors
On 8 October 2026, the U_CAN project launched “Climate-Neutral Community Development: A Practical Course for City Teams”. Designed for Ukrainian mayors, the programme has already welcomed 178 participants. The course is coordinated by Mayors’ Club Ukraine (MCU), a U_CAN consortium partner.
The course introduces approaches to climate-neutral community development and smart city concepts. Combining theory with practical assignments, it helps participants explore climate challenges in the context of their communities’ needs and local governance.
Delivered online through the U_CAN website, the programme comprises 6 modules released progressively according to a shared schedule. Participants work through learning materials, complete practical assignments and check their understanding through self-assessment activities. Dedicated “Mayor’s Portfolio” sections support the practical side of the course. A certificate is offered upon completion.
Each module is followed by a live online session where participants discuss the topics with speakers. The first session took place on 14 October 2026 and was led by Yurii Polianskyi, EU Project Manager at the City Institute Lviv (CIL). It focused on the first module, “Fundamentals of Climate-Neutral Smart Cities”.
The programme forms part of U_CAN’s work to strengthen local capacity and support communities on their path towards climate neutrality and sustainable urban development.
